On September 23 Genetec opened its cloud to four camera brands.[1][2] Six days earlier, Verkada had put an LLM inside its own.[4]

On September 23, Genetec announced that Security Center SaaS — its enterprise cloud VMS — now connects direct-to-cloud with Axis (including Axis Cloud Connect) and Bosch (firmware 9.21 releasing later this year).[1][2] Hanwha Vision Q-series starts compatible and extends to the full product line over time; i-PRO arrives app-based on AI-enabled cameras.[2] These four brands are exactly the ones that dominate the LATAM enterprise NDAA-compliant market.

Genetec’s VP of Product Engineering, Christian Morin, said it directly: the platform “gives organizations the complete freedom to choose the door controllers, cameras, and devices that work best for their business.”[3] And that the Cloudlink line “facilitates the migration of security systems to a modern hybrid cloud architecture while maximizing existing security investments.”[3]

On September 17, at VerkadaOne 2026, Verkada introduced Catalyst.[4] It is a read-only MCP integration inside Command that connects “approved third-party AI platforms like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini” to the same browser console where the footage lives.[4] “From confirming shelves are stocked to triggering an IT ticket when a camera or sensor loses its network connection” — the LLM operating directly on your store’s video stream.[5]

Lesson: the two architectural decisions are opposites, and both are shipping in Q4 2026. [unverified] Genetec = cloud VMS running on cameras you choose. Verkada = cloud-cam-and-VMS bundle with LLM-in-console on proprietary cameras. [unverified] When your next enterprise RFP asks “which vendor?” without first asking “which architecture?”, it’s discarding roughly 90% of the real market. [unverified]

P.D. How many lines of your current RFP name a specific camera brand or VMS before defining whether your architecture is vendor-agnostic-cloud-VMS, cloud-cam-bundle, or on-premises-hybrid?
